Inishowen Maritime Museum and Planetarium is located at the Old Coast Guard Station over looking Greencastle Harbour on the banks of the beautiful Lough Foyle. It is situated beside the Lough Foyle ferry entrance; this passenger/car ferry service runs between Greencastle and Magilligan, Co. Derry.
MUSEUM
The Inishowen Maritime Museum introduces the visitor to the riches of local traditions, cultural and our proud Maritime heritage.
Exhibitions include Dry Docked exhibiting, fully rigged Dronthiem/Greencastle Yawl, Wildfowling Boat, Foyle Punt, Donfanaghy and Fanad Curraghs, The Coast Guard, Traditional Boat Building, The Foyle Pilots, Irish Lights, Emigration, WW1 & WW2, Battle of the Atlantic, Inishowen Mariners Faces from the Past, B17 Bomber exhibition, Shipwrecks room and much more.
PLANETARIUM
Our multi-media planetarium shows tell how our solar system was created, gives a detailed tour of the planets, major moons, asteroids, and comets. We provide a choice of 4 shows everyday containing data from recent space missions as well as a wealth of entertaining information about our cosmic neighbourhood.
You can also inquire about our live Laser Light Show- performed live to music, the concert laser system is played by the laser artist, or "laserist", who creates variations of line and light, uniquely individualising every performance.
GIFT SHOP
The museum features a well-stocked gift shop where you can browse items ranging from nautical toys through exquisite model ships to reproductions of antique brass compasses and other navigator's tools. Posters, tea towels, original paintings and prints are also featured, as well as many items made locally using laser-cutting technology, such as monogrammed glassware and clocks depicting local boats. Rocket kits are also available.
